Well

Wimbledon has had one of those rainy where nothing goes on plan and all matches are washed out. I decided to take a break watching many matches and well without tennis I took a break. Well, it is not a bad idea to spend some time with people around you I guess.
Watched Primal Fear. A decent movie especially if you see the idea for the first time. I knew the idea before and was expecting it so it was ok types. The action was good making it fun.

Looking forward to Volley as usual

David Miliband

41 years old appointed as British Foreign Secretary. That's a welcome decision From Gordon Brown. He is not the son of a prime minister!! He earned his position on his own merit. When will we see such ministers in India in such important positions. Until that time we have to be content with Pratibha Patils and Rahul Gandhis. What pity!!

A decision to be made

Well, from a person who detested exercising to a person who has to choose what to do. A drastic change in one year. Now I have three options of exercising. Running, Swimming and Weights. It is nearly impossible to fit in all three into my schedule. Especially with Volley on Saturdays. Further, I am still learning swimming so doing swimming for a day will take me no where (literally no where in the water). So, I decided I will improve my swimming ability by spending two days on that and the other two days for running with Friday a rest day. Lets see how it pans out from next week.

Philately anybody?

A nice article on how collecting stamps won't to be so good a hobby for the youngsters. I did my share of stamp collection as a kid .

Credentials of our presidential candidates

Pratibha Patil Vs Bhairon Sing Shekhawat

One a person who was obedient to a family and reaping rewards for that obedience. Another a farmer's son who became the Chief Minister by building a political party from scratch for three terms. Well not difficult to choose the better candidate. Yet the inferior candidate will win. Just can't help that especially with the madam.

This is

our presidential candidate's credentials. What pity!

Hmmm

Hopefully leadership chanage

will be beneficial to UK

The new man Gordon Brown seems to be more sensible

Patriotism is your conviction that this country is superior to all other countries because you were born in it.

I find that being born in a country is a good enough reason to feel (in your opinion) that your country is superior to all other countries. As long as you don't try to force others to accept it is okay.

4 miles

Today after a volley ball failure I decided I will run for 45 minutes. In the 45 minutes I completed 4 miles. It is an awesome feeling. Now I am close to 1/3 of a 1/2 marathon and 1/6 of a full. Not bad.

Lets see how it goes

Hmmmm....

Someone may attempt to change your mind, but it probably won't happen. You are fairly certain that you know what is best and there isn't much anyone can do to make you reconsider. Even if you are presented with immutable facts, it still may take a few days for your thinking to shift. Keep in mind that your rigidity can backfire. Softening your stance may ultimately get you what you want.

"Pellaina Kothalo"

a nice romantic comedy.

A very sweet film. Really liked it. The heroine was cute and GaziBizi babu was good as usual. The movie is about a miscommunication between newly weds who want to control the marriage and the problems they face because of that. It is a well directed film and the chemistry between the couple is hilarious.

The movie provided me with 2 1/2 hours of pure relaxation. Thats what matters i guess!!

Seriously? I just love these horoscopes

You may be uncertain about opening your heart to someone close to you, but no one can see this on the surface. It is your secret and you don't want others to know that you are confused, for this will just make everything worse. You are doing the right thing. Keep your fears to yourself today, for they will transform into more positive emotions soon enough.

Another Saturday flies by

Well, it is Sunday again. Time flies fast.

Yesterday another Saturday and Volley as usual was real fun. I am beginning to enjoy without needing to get frustrated. The reason behind this is I play with guys who understand my way of playing the game. We do play to have fun, but unless you try to be competitive there is no fun. Playing to compete by giving it all, something like your life depends on it is what makes playing fun for me. I acknowledge it is not the best way to play but I am like that. So, if you want to play on my side you better give your 100%. All I ask for is for you to contribute your 100%. That is not too much to ask I guess. anyway!!

Work has not been all that fun off late. May be I have been writing for a long time now. Just completed a major chunk of one paper. It will surely need edits, but once the skeleton is down paper is surely in a better position. Now, have to finish one more paper by 20th. This will have to be done well. So, will try to do a good job!

Lets see how things go.

Well, my blog has reached 5000 views. Not bad huh?

Life is beautiful?

Is it really?

Especially after I watched the movie once more it made it even harder to accept. People go through so much that it really begs the question why do people like me crib forever on trivial things!

Very interesting horoscope

You may be less likely now to stand in the spotlight. Instead, you could be searching for ways to remain out of sight. You truly want some relaxing time alone, for this is currently more important for your soul than anything else. Make use of Mercury's retrograde and schedule a personal retreat before it goes direct on July 8.

After all the effort...

After about 14 hrs of work. Finally I have moved. I will have to return the keys and with that officially I would have moved for the third time once I started living in the US. i know its a pain to move every year. But I still end up moving. Dont know. On top of this I have to move once again in July and I hope that will be my last move until graduation.

Lets see

Hmm

If I ever manage to spend at least 1/4 the time I spent thinking about others on myself I will be very different. God knows why I can't do that!!

Dinner

A nice dinner with my friend who is heading to India to get married. I wish him all the best. He is my roommate, so I will move again. We had a great understanding in our apartment and never had an argument over anything. By any standard thats awesome. I would like to thank him for bearing with my idiosyncrasies.

Now will move into a new apartment hoping all will be fine there too.

My Craziness

There are occasions where I feel that I am a crazy guy with small things affecting me. Sometimes when my thoughts are wrong it feels better and I realize I have been thinking negatively. Anyway

Can't believe it

What a horoscope fortune

"It may be easier than usual for you to harness the energy of the day, especially if you are more interested in playful relaxation than working. Setting high goals for yourself today may not be about accomplishing anything productive. Instead, make plans to enjoy yourself and then follow through with your fun ideas."

Another French Open

Well, another French Open Final is over with Federer loosing. I still believe it was in his hands to win and he messed it up. But I still believe he has in him tow win it. He, for me, does not need to win French to be the greatest tennis player ever to have graced this planet. But someday by winning French he can shut many mouths that are wagging.

An interesting fall out of the tennis match is a nice conversation with a friend. It was interesting seeing somebody who also has similar feelings in so many topics!!

Volley Ball

It has been 3 weeks since I played volley. It was fun as usual and I think it is one of the few places where I am relatively free of stupid issues running in my mind and feel contended with life!!

French Open Final

Well, 14 more hours for the final. I know I will find it hard to sleep today and I will be immensely tense. I have grown up on my many of my sports anxieties but this is one that I am yet to and I hope my anxiety is worth it. Federer knows what to do to win and it is only a matter of execution. It is going to be difficult. But not impossible. Will see how it pans out.

Lack of comfort

After spending a certain time with some people you expect a certain level of comfort level. But sometimes you feel it is missing in some friendships. Does that mean there is something wrong in the friendship or its just that way!! I dont understand this!!

Another Wedding Card

The number of wedding cards received have increased to 3. This also from a person whom I have met very recently and she is very entertaining to say the least. I wish her all the best and hope her married life brings her happiness and peace.

French Open

Well, it has been an year since the last French open where Roger federer lost to Rafael Nadal. Now after an year during which Federer won every other grand slam has an opportunity to silence his critics by winning the French Open. The final as expected will be between Federer and Nadal. Their semi-finals matches were very contrasting. Both won their matches in straight sets. However, Federer was way below his best, trailing in all the three sets before managing to scrape through. On the other hand Nadal destroyed his opponent once the initial resistance was taken care of. So, according to me Nadal starts as the favorite but I really want Federer to win and complete a career grand slam. Waiting for the Sunday Final.

Interesting Coversation

Was talking to a good friend of mine doing a Phd on phone. His sister is getting married and he is going to India for the marriage. It must be a nice feeling.

Well, the main idea of the post was to discuss how similar our thoughts are at this stage of our PhD's. I have this feeling of being lonely pestering me very much. Even in a group of 15 people I realize sometimes I am alone in a different world worrying about things that are of no consequence to anybody not even to me. what was surprising was that he also experiences similar feelings. So is this common to every Phd .. a PhD syndrome? Well I do not know the answer. But I sometimes feel irritated and angry at myself. I waste hours thinking about rubbish and end up sometimes feeling very disappointed at the amount of work i completed in a day. Have to tackle this and move on. Lets see how it goes.

Ironical ain't it?

My second Wedding Invitation and random

The fact that I am receiving wedding invitations on my name makes me realize I am aging. My roommate became the second person to give me an official wedding card. I am happy for him and I wish he will have a happy married life.

Interesting, a year or two back I was eager myself to get married, dreaming of the future. Now, however I feel I need at least 2 more years to even consider anything remotely close to marriage. Lets see how it goes.

Cricket with Americans

Well, I played softball with Americans and it was always fun. We took a little time to understand but once we did understand the fundaes we started contributing to the team in our own way. So, as a way of returning back something, we played cricket with a bunch of Americans. The experience was interesting!

The round arm bowling action was a night mare for them. They could not straighten their elbows. They were puzzled to see two people running towards each other to score runs (one of those attempts resulted in a huge collision). However, very soon they picked up stuff and started understanding how complex cricket is. But I think they had fun playing 10 overs on each side. I did like the experience. It was like teaching a kid how to play cricket (In India, the kid has to be very small !!). But still it was nice. So, looks like the give and take of cultures in the US is being fulfilled albeit only in sports. Its always nice to start somewhere!!

Back to the routine

Finally, I am back in Austin, in my office attempting to work. Have lots to do. My trip to Cal was very enjoyable, but not very productive work-wise. So I have a huge backlog on many things that need to be addressed soon. So I hope to work well.

I went to cal hoping to find some answers to somethings and I realized the number of questions only increased.... anyway.... life moves on....

Sometimes

Weird thoughts do fly through your mind and you question everything that happens. I do not know if thats right or not but surely its a sign of something being wrong. Happens a lot of times of late. I am worried, I am loosing my carefree self. Please somehow I need that carefree self of mine back. How is something I will have to find out and work on!!

A second update from California

Well, I know the break is for 9 days. So naturally I am here for many days. Well the days did fly away very soon. I had lots of fun and spending time with friends is always special. After the long weekend, I worked for sometime to send a paper to my colleague. After finishing that I headed off to Stanford in the afternoon. Chakka was there to receive me and after some chat we went for a walk around the campus. This was a relatively small (5 miles round trip!!) trek there. We talked and there were some nice views that we could see. We met all his gumbal in Stan and they seemed a friendly bunch. The next day was the official stan tour. It was very impressive. The campus was cordoned and was like our campus (IITM). The buildings were less monotonous (unlike the buildings at UT and other campuses) and also they were very nice and innovative (without looking like being crazy - as in ***). The tour took us abt 3 hours and after lunch we watched Laavaris. Well, AB was too good and it was fun. That night we decided to meet two friends of mine from undergrad and we had dinner at a med place and followed by a gelato. The dinner was nice and importantly it was good to meet those guys. After some chitchat we dispersed. The next day we went to SFO and from there to Berkeley. A junior of mine from undergrad was around to show me the campus. The campus was really good with many buildings close to a hill or the bay adding to aesthetic appeal. The visit to the Berkeley tower presented us with some breath taking views and we met other people and left for stan late in the night. We had fun along the way, waiting for the trains, looking for restrooms and finally reaching stan again. Friday was a relatively less active day with me trying to work and relaxing most of the time. I met another of my batch mates at Stan and discussed about all my civil classmates. In the evening we planned to watch Cheeni Kum so with Chakka's gumbal we drove over to Fremont. Aarti joined us for dinner and the movie. I liked the movies. It was fun and nice. After the movie, we went in search of a bakery, we drove to Mountain view and realized we were late by 5 minutes. Then we decided we will at least have dessert at an I-Hop and went over there. It was nice.

Saturday began with late into the afternoon with us deciding to go the vineyards in Napa Valley. The drive was pleasant and we decided to stop at the "Robert Mundavi Vineyard". We took a tour on the vineyard. I was really impressed with the fundaes and intricacies involved in wine making. After showing us all the equipment and methods we finally reached the place for tasting wines. Well, I have never been a wine favorite so I did not really like it. But of course we tasted 3 brands and in the process learned how to distinguish between a good wine and a bad wine. (Don't know how helpful it is though, because I have also decided I will never try wine again) Then we had a lunch/dinner at Napa Valley and then I realized we are cutting it close to the AR Rahman show. We drove and on the way took a wrong exit and went towards the pacific for about 15 miles (as we did not have a way to come back). Eventually, we found a U-turn and got back on track. We decided to park in Berkeley and then take the Bart. We reached the Bart station about 30 minutes past 8 and somehow found the auditorium and our seats as well. The show was nice. Some songs were really nice. There were some that were boring. I danced for the penultimate song and the last song was really the best one. Oakland City appreciated Rahman by making June 2nd rahman day in the city (I could not stop laughing hearing this). After the show we searched a lot for a gelato place / cafe bar and did find one near berkeley campus. After having a Tiramisu and turtle cheesecake we came home.
Sunday started with a light lunch at home and a trip to Half moon bay city. the drive towards the bay was awesome. We reached the bay and took a stroll on the beach which was pretty amazing. So within the span of a month I had the fortune of visiting both the Pacific and Atlantic oceans (Not bad huh?). Then we drove down Highway 1 which runs between the bay and the ocean. Oh man, what a ride it was. The ocean was so beautiful and it was one of those things that you would never want to stop watching. After sometime on the car we felt we had to get out and see, so we stopped at a random place and watched the sea and the cliffs. Awesome it was. Ranks close to one of the most breathtaking views in my life. I was so happy jumping and clicking away to glory with my camera. After spending sometime there, we went to another beach for another closeup with the pacific. It was again very good. Then we returned to the land again and went to Saravana Bhavan. Well, it has nearly been 3 years since I had rava dosa and filter coffee at that place. As soon as i reached there the site of tams and the dishes was enough to make me so happy. I looked for my favorite items, pongal and Rava dosa and ordered them. They were awesome. I had my filter coffee and also some mysore pak to eat as well. The weekend was very good and Sunday was great courtesy aarti for taking me to these great places and more importantly her ever cheerful company!!.

With that the trip has nearly reached ts end. Now I will be flying out tomorrow from here. I might meet Chakka once more before I leave. I hope to reach Austin on time. Lets see how that goes.
