Many people wont like this

piece by Mukul. But there is more than a shred of truth to the piece. The most telling one for me is this

The team he served for so long with such distinction has been damaged too. If he had left, as Dravid did, in early 2012, after the rout in Australia, India's middle order might have completed its post-Galactico transition earlier. Shikhar Dhawan, Murali Vijay, Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara, Rohit Sharma and company might not have set the world on fire if Tendulkar had left then, but they would have been hard put to do much worse than he did during this time.

I have always held on to the view that if he continued playing it should be with the objective of playing in South Africa and Australia. If he did not have intentions to go there, him continuing after the Australian series was pointless, just as it was pointless for him to continue playing one days after winning the world cup. But, well, according to most Indian fans, he earned it irrespective of what it means to the new and younger folks!

To be clear, this is not a criticism of Tendulkar. If fans  (who have a huge investment in the game) and selectors (who are charged with the responsibility), cannot see the right thing, hwo can anybody blame Tendulkar who has invested everything - his life and more - for wanting to hold on to something so dear.
