Teaching

Somedays you are just not paid enough to teach undergrads. The lack of interest in the class somedays is appalling. Yet, you move along hoping (against hope probbaly) that there is at least one student who is interested in learning. Well, all you can do is hope right!

False! In addition to hope, you can also reason! :-)

First, believe me when I say that there are at least a few of us (interested ones) in 440. Then, we all had to take 208 at some point, right? Therefore, there must have been a few of us in 208 last year. And, since the probability that our class was exceptional is infinitesimal, there must be a few in there this year! Q.E.D. lol

Some profs have clearly given up all hope. Those of us who are interested appreciate that you haven't! :-)

I do understand where you come from. But sometimes in large classes it is hard to sense enthusiasm. But I keep telling myself there is a small group however small it might be that is purely interested. So that I can move forward. The venting here is to get the negativity out before the next class.
